BERL Combustor Simulation Using the Magnussen Model

In this tutorial, we provide guidelines for modeling and simulation of a natural gas combustion problem in BERL Combustor.

Problem Description of Natural Gas Combustion in BERL Combustor

Here we model an unstaged natural gas flame in a 300 KW swirl-stabilized burner in ANSYS Fluent. The cross-section of the furnace is octagonal and the burner is fired vertically. The combustor also has a conical furnace hood and a cylindrical exhaust duct.

The furnace walls can be either refractory-lined or water-cooled. The burner has 24 radial fuel ports and a bluff center body. Air enters through an annular inlet and we use movable swirl blocks to impart swirl. The cross-sectional area of our model is the same as the one for real furnaces. We use experimental data for wall temperature, inlet boundary conditions, and profile.
