Introduction (centrifugal pump simulation)

In this section, we study centrifugal pump simulation using Fluent. You will learn how to perform the simulation of a centrifugal pump. Centrifugal pumps are classified as dynamic turbomachines. In the industry, we use centrifugal pumps to transport fluids. This happens by the conversion of rotational kinetic energy to the hydrodynamic energy of the fluid flow. An engine can produce the required rotational energy. In the centrifugal pumps, the fluid enters the pump axially. Then after accelerating by the impeller, it moves toward the diffuser radially.

Steps in the simulation of centrifugal pump

In this simulation, we use rotational model. The rotor includes five blades and it works at 2160 rpm. Working fluid is water and the flow is assumed to be incompressible. Due to the periodic rotation, we will model only one blade passage. you can download the mesh to use it in Fluent and investigate it in terms of size and quality.  Then, add a new material from the database. Then, set the boundary conditions and specify solver settings and start the iterations, Finally, study results and compare them with experimental data.
