Introduction (external compressible flow)

In this tutorial, we aim to study external compressible flow. Therefore, we perform the simulation of a transient turbulent flow on an airfoil with a non-zero angle of attack. External compressible flows occur in many applications such as airplane wings, compressors, and any other aerodynamic applications.

Simulation of external compressible flow

The flow is turbulent and we use Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model. Here, for the simulations, we use compressible flow model in ANSYS Fluent. Consider the mesh and check it in terms of size and quality and check the grid and near-wall mesh quality. Then, specify the materials. Then specify the external flow boundary conditions and enable Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model. To obtain better initial values use (FMG) model; perform a solution using Pressure-Based coupled solver. To search for solution convergence, use surface, and force monitors.
