Simulation of a 1.5 Stage Aachen Turbine using Multi-Stage Time Transformation method
In this section, you will learn how to set up a multi-stage time transformation simulation in ANSYS CFX-Pre. This simulation is for a 1.5 Aachen Turbine. For this purpose, you should set up a transient blade row analysis. Then, designate a sliding interface and set up time transforms at multiple interfaces. In order to efficiently simulate the performance of turbine, first a steady state simulation is done. The results are used for the initial conditions of the transient solution of blade row problem.
The advantage of time transformation method is that we can solve the transient blade row problem on one or a few blade passages. However, Time Transformation method is only available for compressible flows. This method also allows us to investigate front and back row frequencies in CFD-Post.
