In this tutorial, we will learn how to set up a detailed chemistry for NOx formation modeling. The decoupled chemistry option is a post-processing approach. It can be used for modeling NOx and other pollutants.
In this tutorial you will learn how to do the following:
- Starting from a converged solution. Any combustion models can be used in this step.
- Reading a detailed chemistry mechanism. Here we use NOx, but it is also possible to use other pollutants.
- Selecting the pollutant species.
- Solving only the pollutant species and disabling all the other equations
It is possible to Model NOx in ANSYS Fluent, however, there are two issues regarding these models. Firstly, they calculate NOx as a post-processing tool. Secondly, these models do not consider the intermediate steps involved in NOx formation. Therefore, one needs a new strategy to explain the detailed chemistry involved in NOx formation. The purpose of this tutorial is to demonstrate this strategy.
Here we model flow in a simple 2D axisymmetric pipe. It contains two inlets, one for fuel (methane) and one for air. A pressure outlet at which atmospheric conditions prevail. The solution of a combustion problem is presented and we will apply detailed chemistry over it.
