Description

Office Ventilation, Heating by Solar Radiation, ANSYS Fluent CFD Simulation Tutorial

This simulation is about Office Ventilation and heating by Solar Radiation via ANSYS Fluent software. We perform this CFD project and investigate it by CFD analysis.

This project investigates a room’s ventilation, air circulation, and heat transfer. The heat is emitted by people, objects, and electrical equipment inside the room.

The thermal energy from human activity, the thermal energy from a working computer, and the heat energy emitted by light bulbs are known to be a source of heat production. The man as a heat source has a constant heat of 1928 W/m3, and the computer has a constant heat of 7285.7 W/m3.

This project investigates the effect of constant air circulation inside the room. Also, each lamp has a constant heat of 26356.5 W/m3. There is also a glass window on one of the walls of this room to investigate the effect of solar radiation.

The glass surface faces the solar rays to better heat transfer by solar radiation. The room sidewalls and their bottom have convection heat transfer with the outside environment. Thus, the ambient air temperature is assumed to be 300 K, and the convection heat transfer coefficient is 19 W/m2K.

The geometry of the present model is drawn by Design Modeler software. The present model consists of a room with a volume under it. The room space includes a human, a computer, two lamps, and other objects, and a special window is designed on one of its sidewalls.

The model is then meshed by ANSYS Meshing software. The model mesh is unstructured, and 309156 cells have been created.

CFD Method

The project’s main goal is thermal analysis and investigation of different methods of heat transfer. Some modeled objects have heat. A heat source is defined for them to define the heat emitted. This means that the heat source represents the heat produced per volume unit.

Solar ray tracing has also been used to investigate the effect of solar radiation. Direct and diffuse solar irradiation must be determined to determine the quality of solar radiation.

Another way to transfer heat with the surrounding medium is convection heat transfer. To apply this method, the free temperature of the environment and the heat transfer coefficient must be determined.

Office Ventilation Conclusion

After simulation, the contours of temperature and velocity are obtained. Also, the velocity vector and streamlines inside the office are obtained. Vectors and flow lines show well the circulation of airflow inside the office.

This indicates the proper operation of the air conditioning system to balance the temperature inside the room. Also, the temperature contours show the heat transfer inside the model differently. An increase in temperature is evident around the heat sources.
