Fluid-structure interaction

Fluid-structure interaction is the science of investigating fluid flows interacting with structures. And the occurred phenomena in the interaction. Moreover, Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) has a wide range of applications in many engineering systems.

For instance, fluid-induced vibration (FIV) which is an FSI problem, is widely encountering in various applications. Such as pipes conveying fluids, cross-flow or parallel flow around solitary cylinders, vibrations related to pressure waves in piping, Surging in compressors, etc.

The phenomena of interaction between fluids and structures may occur in internal and external flow through a complex process . This can happen by numerous factors such as the structure geometry, flow conditions, and fluid properties.
