Description
FSI Concepts
In this training video, we describe the Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) concepts and focus on System Coupling in ANSYS Workbench environment. We provide you with a detailed and comprehensive tutorial to help you master all concepts of the FSI without any issues.
According to FSI, calculations are performed individually in the fluid and structural approaches. The Fluent solver is used for fluid simulation, and the Structural solver is used for solid modeling. Then, the computational results are linked by the System Coupling tool between the fluid and solid solvers in the form of Data Transfers.
There are various methods for data transfers in the Workbench environment. However, the coupling system is recommended as the most common and acceptable methodology.
In common examples, FSI analyzes the interaction between a fluid and a solid in contact, in terms of forces from the fluid to the solid and/or in terms of displacement or deformation from the solid to the fluid.
In FSI simulations, we have two approaches to analyze the interaction between fluid and structure:
- One-way FSI
- Two-way FSI
In one-way FSI, the flowing fluid causes deformation in the solid body by applying force to the structure. While in two-way FSI, in addition to the effect of the fluid on the structure, the structure motion also affects the fluid adjacent to it.
